Hawkesbury Earthcare Centre

17 May 2016

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet MP recently met with staff and volunteers of the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre.

EarthCare is a broad-based sustainable living organisation, having begun as an experimental organic growing project. It promotes environmentally responsible land use and appropriate industry and residential technologies.

Based at Western Sydney University Hawkesbury Campus, the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre is a joint venture project of the Henry Doubleday Research Association and the Alternative Technology Association.

The EarthCare building uses a variety of building materials and techniques to demonstrate sustainability options in domestic and commercial construction. There are walls of rammed earth, mud brock and straw bale. The interior is finished in a combination of rendered mud and plasterboard with ceilings of straw panel and provides space for workshops, educational courses and displays.

“It is fantastic to see members of the community and campus working together to create a sustainable environment.” Mr Perrottet said “Thank you to Eric and Sue from the centre for giving me a tour of the facilities and I look forward to the projects developing into the future.”
